The Cutest Layover

There’s hardly anything more important to Chris and I than community. Deep, intentional relationships with friends far and wide are what makes up our community these days, as our lives have taken us to live in four different cities and three different countries over the past two years. It’s funny how wherever we find ourselves, we’re always able to meet incredible people who we love,  and who challenge us to grow with their varying perspectives, cultural norms, and life experience.

Two of our dearest friends (Ross and Abby) from our years living in Philadelphia, now lives in Seoul, South Korea, where we just so happened to have a 12-hour layover on our flight from Cambodia back to the States in early December. Ross is actually a big part of the reason that Chris and I met (almost 10 years ago now) on a recreation volleyball team that he was putting together at Temple University in 2007. He was in our wedding and is one of our dearest friends. Ross and Abby recently became parents this past fall, and we absolutely could not wait to meet their precious little one.

Since we would be in the same city for 12 hours, we simply could not stay in the airport to wait out our layover, so we decided to take the metro into downtown Seoul to meet up with our friends. It was such a sweet time, to meet their precious little boy for the first time and catch up with the two of them over some delicious traditional Korean bip and bop lunch at a local restaurant.

We love that we’re able to keep these international friendships strong over the years. Although it takes a lot of intentionality on both ends, it is more than worth it for these lifelong friendships!

On our next layover in Seoul, we’re hoping to do one of the free (government run) layover tours to different areas of the city. If you don’t have someone to visit in Seoul and are looking for something to do on a long layover, check out one of these free transit tours.  Until next time Seoul, thanks for the quick tour and quality time!
