Fall has arrived here in Montana, it literally happened overnight. Two weekends ago we were paddle boarding in our swimsuits on Flathead Lake, and this past week the temperatures dropped 15-20 degrees.  So we put on our flannel shirts and moccasins and began embracing all things fall. We live in a beautiful little apartment on Flathead Lake, and love looking out our window every morning at the Rocky Mountains that stand tall across its waters. It’s a gorgeous area and we’re so thankful to live here!

Our Landlords have 5 apple trees on their property whose branches are heavy with apples these days.  With the cooler weather the apples are ripe and ready to be picked. So this past weekend we went apple picking in our own backyard.

Last summer we froze fresh apples in order to use them in our smoothies and baked goods for the rest of the year. This year we decided to do something a little different. We made apple chips!

Some friends of ours have everything you could possibly need to dehydrate apples.  So we cored, peeled, sliced, soaked, and placed the apple slices on the dehydrator, and about 12-14 hours later had the most delicious fresh apple chips I’ve ever had! We felt so “Montanan” with our domestic fall activity, listening to all the classic fall tunes while our apartment filled with the aroma of baking apples. This low-key fall weekend was just what we needed!
