Our Mango Tree // Cambodia

We’re back in Battambang for 4 1/2 months until the end of July, just in time for hot season.  Cambodia has a warm weather climate and our time here this spring/summer is during the hot/dry season in the spring, and beginning of the rainy season this summer. Temps average every day between 95 – 100 degrees, with some serious humidity.

We don’t really mind the heat, although we usually feel pretty drained by mid-afternoon after working all day in these high temps. The hardest part about hot season has probably been that our main form of transportation is our bikes…which we ride 15 minutes every day to and from work down dusty roads in the sun.  I can deal with the heat as long as I get a good night’s sleep, and our bedroom is air conditioned which makes a huge difference.

Although hot season can be rough, one of the best things about this time of year is that one of our favorite fruits (mangos) are in season.  Whats even better, is that we have a huge mango tree in our front yard!

Since we arrived a few weeks ago, I’ve made friends with some of the neighborhood boys who almost daily come to climb the mango tree and pick as many mangos as they possibly can reach.  I thought since these boys are coming around so often, I better go out to meet them, and in my broken Khmer say hi!  They loved showing me the mangos that they picked, and how high they could climb in the tree. I gave them a bag to carry all their mangos in, and they gave me some of the mango’s that they picked in return.

Now almost every time they come around they ring our doorbell, ask for another bag, and give me a mango from their collection.  We love being a part of this community, and joining with the amazing things that God is doing here!
